Data art posters about a nine-day trip to Tokyo
This posters are dedicated to my trip to Japan in September 2024. I went with my loved one, so the traffic light and vending machine elements encode the data of the two participants of the trip.
Creation process
I started by studying references and sketching traffic lights, poles and vending machines. I was mostly inspired by my photos from the trip, but I also studied what colors the machines come in.

I can confidently say that in one form or another, grey, blue, orange and red machines can be found in Japan! :)
Below I show my photos from the trip (taken with a Canon EOS 7D and an 85mm lens).
Speaking of data, I first analyzed it in a table and built graphs. Based on them, I have already assembled traffic lights and machines in Figma. I tried not to overuse decorative elements so as not to distract from the encoding.

For beauty, I only added wires between the poles (almost a linear graph) and technical details of the machines.

The whole process didn't take much time, but there was a big break in work. I did all the calculations almost immediately after returning in September, and in October I came up with the encoding and assembled the traffic lights with vending machines.

I put off designing the general poster for a long time — for the first time there was a need for an illustrative background, apparently I needed to gather my strength. Inspiration came only in February of the following year.

I made the legend after the posters. I wanted to make a reference to the instructions or technical diagrams. I don't understand why yet, but I subconsciously associated this style with something Japanese.
